Brugge History

Ted Miller and his wife Shannon were travelling the world, creating beers and building micro-breweries in places like Hong Kong, The Caribbean, mainland China, and Taiwan.

But their hearts were still in their hometown and neighborhood. Born and raised in the enclave of Broad Ripple in Indianapolis, they returned home in 2004 to fulfill their dream of building an eclectic European style restaurant which also happened to brew specialty Belgian ales on site.

In April, 2005 Brugge Brasserie was born.

Ever since, “The Brugge” has been a favorite of locals and visitors alike.

Famous for its Moules Frites, crepes, stews, and of course, the Belgian ales, Brugge is in the midst of expansion to the second floor of the current location.

In late 2006, Ted Miller met with Mike Rowe, the owner of the Terre Haute Brewing Company and an agreement was reached.

The owners of Brugge Brasserie formed a new company, the Vigo Brewing Group ( Terre Haute is in Vigo County ) with new shareholders and bought the building located at 401 S. 9th Street, in the heart of the old Downtown Terre Haute Brewing District.

Mike Rowe continues to own the rights to the names Terre Haute Brewing Company and Champagne Velvet.

Production began in early 2008 with kegs of Brugge Black, White, and Tripel being available for fine restaurants and bars throughout Indiana.

In August, 2008, the bottling line was finally ready and .75 litre bottles are now ready for your enjoyment.
